10 Favourite Screen Characters

So, there I was… minding my own business… when I was ambushed and tagged by that no-good ruffian, Ben Willoughby, to name ten of my favourite Movie/TV characters.

It took a while for me to narrow the list down. It’s not as easy as you think and in several cases I could list a fair few characters just from one movie/show (which is a testament to the quality of the writing). Anyway, in no particular order, here are ten characters that stood out…

Faun

– Faun –

“El Laberinto del Fauno”

“I have so many names, names that only the wind and the trees can pronounce.”

Hazel

– Hazel –

“Watership Down”

“All the world will be your enemy, Prince of a Thousand enemies. And when they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you; digger, listener, runner, Prince with the swift warning. Be cunning, and full of tricks, and your people will never be destroyed.”

Pinhead

– Pinhead –

“Hellraiser”

“Oh, no tears please, for it’s a waste of good suffering.”

Indiana Jones

– Indiana Jones –

“Raiders of the Lost Ark”

“You want to talk to God? Let’s go see him together, I’ve got nothing better to do.”

Léon

– Léon –

“Léon: The Professional”

[referring to his plant] “It’s my best friend. Always happy. No questions.”

Snake Plissken

– Snake Plissken –

“Escape from New York”

“Sad story. You got a smoke?”

Gabriel

– Gabriel –

“The Prophecy”

“Do you know how you got that dent, in your top lip? Way back, before you were born, I told you a secret, then I put my finger there and I said “Shhhhh!”

The Crow

– Eric Draven –

“The Crow”

“Mother is the name for God on the lips and hearts of all children.”

Mr. Croup and Mr. Vandemar

– Mr. Croup and Mr. Vandemar –

“Neverwhere” [BBC]

Mr. Croup: “Well bless my little black soul, Mr. Vandemaar. Do you see what I see? I spy with my little eye something that’s going to be…”

Mr. Vandemaar: “Dead in a minute, Mr. Croup.”

Sherlock Holmes

– Sherlock Holmes –

“The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes” [ITV – Jeremy Brett]

“I never make exceptions. An exception disproves the rule.”

There, all done. So many missing from that list.

And… before you say it… I know that Mr. Croup and Mr. Vandemar are actually two characters, but… you can’t have one without the other. They are two halves of the same and in any case, I don’t care!

If you want to have a go at listing your own 10 then go ahead and then tag up to 10 other people to do the same. Those that I’ve clubbed and tagged will be mentioned via Twitter.

Cheers!

  1. Absolutely fantastic list!
Thanks for tagging me, by the way. Sadly, I don’t think I’ll manage to write my own list at the moment (I’m preparing the AtoZ Challange and it’s sucking up all my time), but thanks so much for thinking about me 😉

    1. Haha! It’s maddening having to limit yourself as you suddenly get swamped with all sorts of memorable characters. I decided to largely ignore more recent movies/tv series and go for those that brought back fond memories.

I look forward to seeing your list!
